Nassau, Bahamas -- A woman who wears b michael knows how to wear a basic dress and make it look glamorous. That said, let’s get back to basics shall we.

What was fashion in the beginning? What will it be in the end? Perhaps these are unanswerable questions, but let’s just say that in the beginning fashion was sophisticated, elegant and classic. In the end, fashion will be just that, with a hint of b michael.

The guest designer hit the runway on Saturday evening. His showcase of 20 outfits was very simple and elegant with mostly evening wear for women. With only two menswear outfits, audience members applauded loudly at the classic tones set by the designer.

Yes, if you didn’t now, b michael’s collection held true to the genre of fashion for the bourgeoisie. Yet, these were outfits for the everyday man. They embodied class, yet exuded diversity.

Most of the pieces in general were in neutral colors and earthy tones, but there were a few bold pieces colored in shades of pink. b michael also used a lot of solid colors as opposed to prints and lots of designs. He excelled in his use of solid colors. With very simplistic, yet stylish designs the audience was very impressed by this fashion legend.

He said, “I love doing very simplistic sophisticated clothing that’s modern, so this collection I hope epitomized that in some way.” That it did. One could easily see why fans of his designs include socialites and personalities such as Nancy Wilson and Lena Horne.

He also describes his signature style as “a modern approach to glamour,” citing his mother as his first inspiration. He takes great pleasure in incorporating, “the fantastic with the understated cool, sensational color with elegance, and emotion with design.”

A very humble b michael told the press, “I am honored to have been invited. Love the energy…” With the honor of performing last, his show ended the IWFW 2009 runway performances. Audience members waited patiently to see what the most experienced fashion designer at IWFW had to offer and boy were they satisfied.

b michael has been in fashion for two decades and is actually a former account executive for a Wall Street firm. The designer from Durham, Connecticut, who is also a University of Connecticut graduate, launched a successful millenary line after designing for Oscar de la Renta and Louis Feraud among others. He also launched his first couture collection in 1999.

He is also a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and a guest lecturer at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology.

As the runway lights dimmed and the final walk for the models materialized, Michael appeared on stage – wearing his designs- thanks audience members for their love, support and presence at the final night of IWFW.
